Tacca

Terms of service

What Tacca is, what it is not, and what to expect.

In short

Tacca helps you split expenses and understand who owes what to whom. It does the arithmetic and explains it.

It never touches your money, never transfers it and never holds it. When it is time to settle, it hands you over to the payment app you already use.

Tacca is provided by IPGS ENERGY SRL, registered at Via Ugo Ojetti 7, 20151 Milano, Italia, VAT number 07006920966. You can write to us at privacy@usetacca.com.

Tacca never moves money

This is the most important point in this document, which is why it is also the highest.

Tacca is not a payment institution, not an electronic money institution, not a financial intermediary, and provides no payment services under the European PSD2 directive. It holds no authorisation from the Bank of Italy, and needs none.

When you record a settlement, Tacca notes that it happened and, if you want, opens the app you pay with. The payment happens entirely between you and the other person, through third-party tools: we do not see it, do not guarantee it, and cannot reverse it.

Marking a settlement inside Tacca does not mean money moved. It only means somebody stated that it did.

This is not advice

The calculations, statistics and debt simplifications Tacca offers are support tools. They are not financial, accounting, tax or legal advice.

Tacca's records have no fiscal or evidentiary value: they do not replace invoices, receipts or accounting documents, and they do not prove a debt to anyone.

The accounts are between people, not with us

Who owes what depends on what you and the other participants enter. Tacca calculates exactly on the data it receives, and always shows you where each number comes from so you can check it.

Recurring expenses are recorded by themselves on the due date you set, and go on until you stop or end them. They are not written by the server at a set time: the phone of someone in the group writes them when it opens the app, so an expense can appear late, carrying the date it was due. Check the amount and the split when you set them up and when prices change: a wrong recurring expense repeats the same mistake at every due date. Anyone in the group can correct or stop it.

But if an expense is entered wrongly, the result will be consistently wrong. Disputes over who should have paid what stay between the people in the group: we do not arbitrate, do not decide who is right, and cannot compel anyone to pay.

Your account

The account is personal and exists to find your data again and to share groups. You sign in with email and password, with Google or Apple, or with a code we email you: whoever has access to your way of signing in — the password, the mailbox, the Google or Apple account — has access to your account, so keep it protected.

An account is needed to use the app: with nobody to recognise there is no way to protect the groups or to guarantee they stay yours if you change phone. The exception is guest access: with an invite code you can join without an email, in at most two groups; for a third you have to sign up, and what you wrote stays yours when you do. Without signing up, if you change phone there is no way to find your groups again. You can also look at the example group before creating one.

To sign up you must be at least 14, the age at which Italian law lets you consent on your own to the processing of your data in a digital service; below that age the consent of a parent or guardian is required. By accepting these terms you are telling us you are old enough.

Fair use

We ask you not to use Tacca for unlawful purposes, not to enter data about people who do not know they are in a group with you, and not to attempt to reach data of groups you do not belong to.

If you enter another person's name or payment details, it is on you to have the right to do so: on our side we cannot verify it.

The same goes for photos: your profile portrait is seen by whoever shares a group with you, a group cover by the whole group. Do not upload unlawful or offensive images, or ones portraying people who do not know they are ending up there — having the right to do so is on you. If we notice, or somebody reports it to us, we can take them down.

The service is provided as it is

Tacca can be used free of charge; some features that improve or speed up the experience may be paid, in which case the price and conditions are shown to you before you buy. The service is provided as it stands. We do our best to make it work well and to keep the arithmetic exact — the calculation engine is covered by automated tests verifying the invariants it rests on — but we cannot guarantee the service will always be available, nor that it is free of defects.

Syncing depends on a third-party provider and on a network connection: it may be slow, break, or be unavailable. The functions that run on your phone keep working regardless, which is precisely why the app was built this way.

We may change or discontinue individual features. Were we to shut down the sync service, we would give reasonable notice and a way to export your data.

Trial versions (beta)

Some versions of Tacca are distributed as betas or trial updates: they are still being tested. While a version is marked as beta it may contain errors, change or lose features without notice, and not always be available.

In a beta, data may be lost or wrong. Keep a backup (from "You → Data") and check the figures before paying or asking other people for money.

We may suspend or close access to a beta, and ask you to move to the next version.

If you report a problem or suggest a change, we may use it to improve Tacca without owing any compensation. The personal data you send us stays governed by the Privacy notice.

Nothing here excludes or limits our liability where the law does not allow it, or the rights consumer law grants you regardless.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damages arising from use of the app, loss of unsynced data, payments made or missed between you and other people, or decisions taken on the basis of the figures shown.

Nothing in this paragraph excludes or limits our liability where the law does not allow it, including wilful misconduct, gross negligence, and the rights consumer protection law grants you regardless.

If you want to leave

You can erase local data whenever you like from "You → Data", and delete the account from "You → Profile": it goes from the server, not just from this phone. If you no longer have the app, the same request can be made from the website.

Account deletion does not wait for open balances. In shared groups, an entry unlinked from any account may remain with the name and history needed to keep expenses, settlements and shares consistent: it is no longer a usable profile or accessible with your credentials.

If these terms change

If they change in a way that matters to you, we write to you by email saying what changes and, the next time you open the app, it asks you to accept again: until you accept you cannot keep using it with your account. If you do not accept the changes you can stop using Tacca and delete your account from "You → Profile": what is on the server goes away.

We may change these terms to comply with a law or an authority’s order, to correct errors, to reflect new, changed or removed features and changing providers, or to improve security and data protection. We notify you by email with reasonable advance notice, saying what changes and from when it applies. The rights the law grants you remain intact, including, if a change non-negligibly worsens your use of a paid service, free withdrawal within thirty days.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Italian law.

If you are a consumer, the courts of your place of residence or elected domicile remain competent, and every mandatory right granted to you by consumer protection law remains unaffected.
